Ant-Man has arrived...and our excitement is not small scale!

I have been awaiting Ant-Man for a LONG time. I have enjoyed all the hype and unique marketing techniques deployed by Marvel, and now the time has finally arrived to see this small scale superhero on the big screen. Now, this is just my reaction to the movie, but I'll do my best to keep out any spoilers for those who haven't seen it yet.

Design of the Week: Red on My Ledger

Meet an agent who knows what it's like to be unmade. She's got red in her ledger she's determined to wipe out, and if we were her enemies, we'd be very, very scared.

This newest design is printed on a stone grey shirt that won't shrink or fade, guaranteed to be soft and awesome.

We finally have our new Spiderman...and it's not who we guessed.

It's a big day for Avengers and Marvel fans in general. It feels like plans for Spiderman have been in teeter-totter mode for months. Now, finally, we have some solid news to latch onto...and it's (hopefully) good news, at that.

As announced on Marvel's blog this morning:

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are proud to announce that after a full worldwide casting search, Tom Holland will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the next Spider-Man film, in theaters in IMAX and 3D on July 28, 2017.
There you have it! We not only have our new Spidey - Tom Holland, a relative unknown (though if Tom Hiddleston's and Chris Hemsworth's Marvel debuts say anything, he won't stay that way for long!) - but a release date, and a director: Jon Watts of upcoming thriller "Cop Cars".

What do you think? Are you relieved/excited Marvel has picked a no-name to launch to stardom, or were you holding out for Asa Butterfield?

Design of the Week: Fortunately, I am Mighty.

We've got a new motto for you.

More homework than you can possibly get done? "Fortunately, I am mighty."

Running a 5k you haven't trained enough for? "Fortunately, I am mighty."

Bad day at work dealing with grumpy people? "Fortunately, I am mighty."

This 100% cotton shirt designed by our artists is guaranteed to make you feel just a little bit mightier.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron spoiler-free review

NOTE: We decided to make this review as close to spoiler-free as possible for anyone who hasn't had a chance to see AOU yet, but there will be mentions of plot points that may have escaped you if you haven't kept up with all the TV spots and trailers. Proceed with caution!

Well. I'm not quite sure where to start. I would have liked to have seen the movie again before tackling a review of it, because it's just that big. That part wasn't surprising; I knew the run time, and how many characters Joss Whedon was juggling, and all the connections that needed to be made for Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Having read a lot of reviews that said Whedon had "Spiderman threed" AOU (yup, that really is a term now) with too many plot points and bad guys, I went into the theater hopeful but wary. I wanted to keep my expectations reasonable.

I'm happy to announce that Age of Ultron not only met, but exceeded my expectations. It had its flaws, certainly - and everyone I've talked to has their own idea of exactly what those flaws were. The ones that seem to be universally agreed upon are ones that, on the whole, are balanced by what Whedon did right.

New movie trailer roundup

We don't have a ton this week, but what we do have by way of new to nearly-new trailers (and clips) are all whoppers we've been waiting for for a while.

Our team has mixed reactions to Ant-Man and its new trailer. We're excited, but tentatively. Marvel doesn't mess much up, but we're still really going to need to be sold on the "coolness" factor of shrinking down and fighting on a toy train. We have faith, though.

From scanning the YouTube comments - which is always a treat of culture - it seems like folks are pretty miffed/bummed or just WHY-ing over the plot twist reveal. But I fall more into the category of being pleased. The first trailer just didn't hook me; this one did.

And lastly...you're going to be seeing more and more on the Avengers front these next two weeks. That's not a bad thing, right? What did you guys think of the Hulkbuster clip from last night's MTV awards?

The Avengers countdown begins.

With just 38 days to go until Avengers: Age of Ultron hits the US, we at MyGeekery have been tossing our theories (some rooted in the comics, some simply the product of hopes and dreams and way too much investment of the characters of the MCU) back and forth with more and more slightly-crazed enthusiasm. It says something about Marvel (and the genius of Joss Whedon), that after a half-dozen TV spots and trailers and Odin knows how many veiled hints from AoU's cast and crew, a couple spoiler-sniffers like us still can't be 100% positive what's headed our way...
