The Avengers countdown begins.

With just 38 days to go until Avengers: Age of Ultron hits the US, we at MyGeekery have been tossing our theories (some rooted in the comics, some simply the product of hopes and dreams and way too much investment of the characters of the MCU) back and forth with more and more slightly-crazed enthusiasm. It says something about Marvel (and the genius of Joss Whedon), that after a half-dozen TV spots and trailers and Odin knows how many veiled hints from AoU's cast and crew, a couple spoiler-sniffers like us still can't be 100% positive what's headed our way...

Of course, we're glad we can't be positive. While I admit I tend to look for spoilers out of the corner of my eye, I'm always glad to be pleasantly surprised. The internet being what it is (I'm looking at you, Tumblr), that doesn't happen very often.

So, straight from our back-and-forth e-mail chain, here is a short list of things we think will happen, hope will happen, and are willing Joss Whedon to please, please not let happen. In the spirit of being spoiler-free for the next 38 1/2 days, things we actually know are coming have been excluded. These are all theories and/or aforementioned hopes and dreams (or fears).

What we think will happen:
  • Cap will (fully) lift Thor's hammer in a moment of need
  • A character death (or three) will contribute to the upcoming rift in Captain America: Civil War
  • Hulk will either die or disappear (into space?)
  • Vision will be the one to ultimately bring about Ultron's downfall
  • Science bros will bond in the quiet before the storm
  • Ultron will call Tony Geppetto at least once
  • Jokes will be made about Thor's wardrobe
  • Tony's cockiness will be his downfall....again.

What we hope will happen
  • Black Widow will lift Thor's hammer in a moment of need
  • Hawkeye will make up for lost time in the first Avengers and be super cool
  • We'll see sneaky hints pertaining to what Loki has been up to and where Bucky has been dis-spiritedly wandering
  • We'll get a glimpse at Black Widow's back story (following the cues in Agent Carter)
  • Mention of Jane Foster (more than "we moved her to a secure facility")
  • A few (but not too many) Joss Whedon one-liners to combat the darkness (see aforementioned storm)
  • The repertoire Cap and Black Widow had in Winter Soldier won't be ignored

What we're willing Joss to please, please not let happen:
No love triangles. We beg you.
Please don't kill Banner/Hulk.

What are your theories? Throw them at us!
